prize draws

These prize draws have been set up to thank all buyers, without whom it would not be possible for me to continue to record life in remote Australia. Buyers are the only entrants included in prize draws now, for logical reasons explained at the very end of this page.

Current Competitions

Book & Photograph Buyer Prize Draw

Drawn the day before Australia Day every year (next draw 25 January 2008)

WIN a spectacular framed* limited edition exhibition photograph valued at more than $1,000.00 accompanied by a personally signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

How do you enter?
  • If you purchased direct from me, and your current contact details are on the mailing list, you are automatically entered into this prize draw in perpetuity
  • Everyone who has purchased the book “A Million Acre Masterpiece” or a limited edition photograph via a bookshop or gallery can enter this prize draw by simply correctly answering the appropriate question in Join the Mailing List.

*Delivered to the nearest bus freight depot. An unframed photograph and Certificate of Authenticity (with a value of at least $500.00) will instead be mailed to winners who are unable to provide a delivery address on mainland Australia, unless they wish to pay the cost of packaging and freight. Sorry but this applies to Tassie and other Australian islands to, due to the high cost of glass freight.

Book Survey/Comment Prize Draw

Drawn the day before Australia Day every year (next draw 25 January 2008)

The prizes for this draw are picked from a special box full of good quality books and cds, all related to the Australian bush. This prize draw gives me a convenient justification for ongoing book purchases, and more time spent seeking them out.

Some of the books in the prize box have been bought second-hand because they are no longer in print, i.e. no longer available new. But increasing rarity has actually made them more expensive to purchase, not less so, and they have been purchased because they are very good.

Some of the books in the prize box have also been signed by the authors, and the majority are hard to obtain.

How do you enter?
  • This competition is open to everyone on the mailing list who has purchased the book “A Million Acre Masterpiece”. Enter by filling in the quick and easy survey in Future Books or simply email or mail me a couple of sentences explaining what you think of the book.

Grapevine Prize Draw & Referrers Prize Draw

Drawn the day before Australia Day every year (next draw 25 January 2008)

These draws are for special books out of the prize box as explained in the Book Survey/Comment Prize Draw above.

How do you enter?
  • Grapevine Prize Draw - When ordering a book online, simply advise how you found out about this website or the book A Million Acre Masterpiece.
  • Referrers Prize Draw - If you found out about the book from someone else, and they are already recorded on my mailing list as having bought a book themselves, fill in their details and you both go into the Referrers Prize Draw as well.
(Please note; if they are not recorded on my mailing list as a buyer unfortunately the entry in this draw will be disqualified. This draw has been set up specifically to thank people who have bought books then told others about it.)
  • Additional Prizes - There are sometimes occasional extra prizes awarded to people who have referred A Million Acre Masterpiece to many other people, or purchased a lot of books themselves.

Prize Draw Terms & Conditions:

Who Can Enter?

These prize draws have been set up to thank everyone who has bought books and photographs, and:

  • Told others about the website,
  • Joined the mailing list and sent updated contact details automatically,
  • Encouraged bookshops to stock the books,
  • Come to exhibitions and encouraged others to attend also
  • Sent me great messages

Many people have been very encouraging in ways they probably don't even realise themselves. These competitions are to thank you all.

  • These competitions are open to everyone on the mailing list who has fulfilled the criteria specified and whose name and contact details are complete and current. If the winner cannot be contacted because their contact details are outdated or inaccurate then a replacement winner will be drawn within 14 days. This is because unfortunately I don’t have the administrative resources to track down people who have moved and not advised their altered contact details.
  • Winners are contacted by email to confirm their delivery address details are correct, so if you get a new email address please remember to let me know.
  • The winner’s name, nearest town/suburb and country (if not Australia) will be added to the ‘Prize Draws’ section of the website, as has been done for the previous competition winners listed below. If any winner has any objection to these basic details being publicly recorded they can be exempted, and initials used instead, but the winner must let me know as soon as they have been notified that they have won.
  • In each prize draw, there is only one entry per postal address (i.e. one entry per household or business).
  • Prize draws take place on the dates specified however details are usually not added to the ‘Prize Draws’ section of the website until the next batch of website updates are processed. So there may be a delay of some weeks in-between when a competition has been drawn and the prize sent to the winner, and when the details appear publicly on the website.

Buyers-only prize draws

Due to the influx of entrants via competition websites, who were only entering to win something for nothing rather than something they really value, unfortunately all prize draws now have to be strictly buyers-only draws.

This is certainly not to ‘force’ people to spend money, it is simply to ensure it is as fair as possible, that entrants are genuinely interested in the bush and would really enjoy what they may win.

It would seem very unfair for anyone to win something they’re not particularly interested in, just so they can re-sell it, when there are others who would be really delighted with the prize. Buyers-only draws also ensure that I am thanking those who I ought to be thanking, rather than verandah sitters.

Without buyers the reality is that I would not be able to continue to preserve Australian bush heritage or run a website, and you would not be reading this.

So thanks again to all buyers, the reality is you are the ones who have made these prize draws possible and keep the wheels turning. You are appreciated. Best of luck in the competitions.
