{"id":1289,"date":"2011-05-16T09:19:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-15T23:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/?p=1289"},"modified":"2011-05-16T09:19:40","modified_gmt":"2011-05-15T23:19:40","slug":"weather-bureau-forecasts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/weather-bureau-forecasts\/","title":{"rendered":"Weather Bureau forecasts &#8211; rainfall, frost and cyclones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the excellent <a title=\"Bureau of Meteorology 'water &amp; land' page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/watl\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Water and the Land&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0 <a title=\"Forecast Rain map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/jsp\/watl\/rainfall\/pme.jsp\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Forecast Rain&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0map, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology now has a similar <a title=\"Frost forecast map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/jsp\/watl\/weather\/frost.jsp\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Forecast Frost Potential&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0map.\u00a0 They are seeking feedback on the usefulness of the &#8216;Frost forecast potential&#8217;\u00a0service, so anyone who wants to put their two bob&#8217;s worth in, should, without delay.\u00a0 There are many businesses that I imagine would find this frost forecast map\u00a0useful, in particular fruit and vegetable growers, but also irrigators.\u00a0 Likewise the <a title=\"Evapotranspiration map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/watl\/eto\/\" target=\"_blank\">Evapotranspiration<\/a> map.\u00a0 The weather bureau collects masses of data, so it is great to see more of it being made publicly available via their easy-to-use website.<\/p>\n<p>It has also been great to see the development of more Australia-wide clickable maps so that anyone with more than a specifically regional focus can quickly and easily check out various regions of Australia by clicking backwards and forwards on a map of the whole of Australia, rather than having to follow a chain of links backwards and forwards to specific areas within regions within states.<\/p>\n<p>Most impressive\u00a0 of all is the Australian Bureau of Meteorology&#8217;s \u00a0increasingly specific cyclone development and predicted path forecasts, as illustrated by the\u00a0accurate forecasts for cyclone Larry and cyclone Yasi.\u00a0 \u00a0There is an absolute truckload of cyclone information located on the B.O.M. website.\u00a0\u00a0To date,\u00a0 Australian\u00a0cyclone\u00a0records back to 1970 have been re-examined and corrections made and this list is now <a title=\"List of Australian cyclones back to 1970\" href=\"http:\/\/reg.bom.gov.au\/cyclone\/history\/index.shtml#history\" target=\"_blank\">online<\/a>.\u00a0 Checking and corrective work is being done on older data which will presumably be put online also.\u00a0\u00a0 There are maps showing exact track paths which will totally diffuse all future arguments about what cyclone occurred when and where, and lists\u00a0showing wind speeds, a very common\u00a0cause of conversational disagreements during the northern wet seasons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the excellent &#8216;Water and the Land&#8217;\u00a0 &#8216;Forecast Rain&#8217;\u00a0map, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology now has a similar &#8216;Forecast Frost Potential&#8217;\u00a0map.\u00a0 They are seeking feedback on the usefulness of the &#8216;Frost forecast potential&#8217;\u00a0service, so anyone who wants to put their two bob&#8217;s worth in, should, without delay.\u00a0 There are many businesses that I [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,66,68],"tags":[82,176],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1289"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1289"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1289\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1293,"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1289\/revisions\/1293"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1289"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1289"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1289"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
