{"id":1660,"date":"2011-07-06T21:30:44","date_gmt":"2011-07-06T11:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/?p=1660"},"modified":"2011-07-06T21:30:44","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T11:30:44","slug":"australias-live-export-ban-lifted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fionalake.com.au\/blog\/australias-live-export-ban-lifted\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia&#8217;s live export ban lifted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At last some sense has prevailed and Agricultural minister Joe Ludwig announced this evening that the live export ban has been lifted.\u00a0 Cattle that are completely traceable will be allowed to be exported to &#8216;independently audited&#8217; abattoir facilities.<\/p>\n<p>However many regional small businesses will have lost huge amounts of money, many cattle that a month ago\u00a0weighed just under the 350kg maximum will now be too heavy for the Indonesian trade, and no doubt animal rights extremists will continue to do EVERYTHING they can to destroy Australian livestock industries.<\/p>\n<p>For an amazing example of animal rights idiocy, you need look no further than the ongoing campaign to ban carriage horses.\u00a0 This has continued in America, Canada, Britain and Europe.\u00a0 There is a great fuss made of the horsedrawn carriages in New York City, for example.\u00a0 Googling &#8216;carriage horse ban&#8217;\u00a0is like googling &#8216;show me every\u00a0extremist, irrational, obsessive\u00a0animal rights campaigner on the planet&#8217;.\u00a0 There are millions of search results.\u00a0\u00a0 There is even a coalition to &#8216;ban horsedrawn carriages&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Good things come out of bad.\u00a0 The live export ban has galvanised northern rural Australia, created an indestructible communication network, and given many remote primary producers the impetus to stick their necks out to publicly explain the facts, for the first time ever.\u00a0 The confidence and realisation that their opinion and voice matters and can make a difference, is priceless.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At last some sense has prevailed and Agricultural minister Joe Ludwig announced this evening that the live export ban has been lifted.\u00a0 Cattle that are completely traceable will be allowed to be exported to &#8216;independently audited&#8217; abattoir facilities.
