The list of Northern Territory livestock brands that are still current that were registered before 1928, under the South Australian brands ordinance, is interesting. It’s a short list – just 7 owners, and 9 cattle stations. The two most recognised Australian cattle station symbol brands are on the list – the Victoria River Downs (VRD) ‘bulls head’ brand and the Newcastle Waters ‘wineglass’ brand.
The owners of these oldest brands include Heytesbury Beef Pty Ltd, Newenham Pty Ltd, Baines River Cattle co, Consolidated Pastoral Company Ptd Ltd, Alexandria Station Pty Ltd, Baldy Bay Pty Ltd/The Long Yard Trust, and RT & JM Bloomfield/The Bloomfield Trust. Stations in addition to VRD and Newcastle Waters are: Ambalindum, Auvergne, Newry, Alroy Downs, Dalmore Downs and Hodgson River (NT portion).
