International Federation of Agricultural Journalists ‘Star’ prize

This year 20 of the 29 member countries of the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists sent entries to the IFAJ’s ‘Star’ Prize for Agricultural Photography. A record 157 photographs have been entered into the three categories – Nature, People and Production. As usual, the competition will be judged by three photographers from different countries – this year – The Netherlands, Japan and Australia. The category winners and overall winner will be announced at the annual IFAJ congress; to be held this year in Fort Worth, Texas, from 31 July to 4 August. The IFAJ conference will be followed by the US Agricultural Media Summit. The IFAJ photography competition is generously sponsored by DeLaval, a worldwide dairy industry company, and the agricultural journalism competition is sponsored by John Deere, a worldwide agricultural machinery company. This week the judges started assessing the images entered, and I am looking forward to the judging process – many of the images are excellent, and the other judges and I are bound to have some interesting discussions again this year, like last year, before we settle on the official winners.
