Tanumbirini Station is to be auctioned by Ray White Rural in Brisbane on Friday 20th May. The 5,000 square kilometre station is estimated to carry around 25,000 breeders – perhaps over-optimistic given the soil and rainfall in this region (between Daly Waters and Cape Crawford, NT).
Tanumbirini was bought by Henry and Maria Townshend in 2002 and sold to Sterling Buntine in May 2007 prior to the planned subdivision and auction. Henry and Maria went on to buy East Mathison Station, 90km west of Katherine. They have since subdivided it and sold off Mathison station to Pancho Beef for more than $2.1 million, after auctioning it last month. The Townshends still own Stapleton station however it is also for sale.
