National Vegetarian Week & How does being vegetarian save the planet?

April 1st, 2009

An article by Natascha Mirosch in the Brisbane Courier Mail on ‘National Vegetarian Week’, is filled with subjective steering such as: ‘most Australians… still have a heavy, meat-based diet’. Heavy? Does she mean like a lead weight? And another beauty: ‘while vegetarians such as…found their way to a meatless diet purely because of a distaste […]

Uranium mining – radioactive waste or cakes of export uranium could be in your backyard soon

March 19th, 2009

Imagine if the cargo dumped into the sea off South East Queensland recently was cakes of uranium being exported, instead of 32 containers of ammonium nitrate. Imagine if the recent truck crash between Cloncurry and Mt Isa had also been carrying uranium (it spilled ammonium nitrate), or one of the trains that has crashed in […]

‘Go Green, Go Veg, Save the Planet’ advertising on SBS television

March 16th, 2009

At the end of a long day I’m sitting peacefully watching government-funded SBS telly at peak hour (around 7.30pm) and up pops this ad showing a pie chart, with the top third taken up by cows. We are exhorted to ‘go green, go veg, save the planet’, because methane produced by livestock is causing global […]

PETA – at it again

People for the Eating of Tasty Animals

August 5th, 2008

I don’t know how I missed it for this long, but I only recently stumbled upon P.E.T.A. – People for the Eating of Tasty Animals. There are t-shirts, mugs, keyrings and stickers, etc. Well done Mike Doughney, for standing up for free speech in the face of abusive bullying. Check out his excellent website http://www.mtd.com/tasty/ […]

U.N. Declaration on Animal Welfare Predicted

August 23rd, 2007

Hugh Wirth is at it again, pretending to be a moderate voice of animal welfare when in reality he sounds more like a fully paid up member of an animal right extremist organisation. As anyone would know who has heard him pontificating on ABC radio in Victoria, in recent years. He was interviewed by ABC […]

S.A. Bans animals under 200kg from participating in rodeos

July 30th, 2007

The S.A. Minister for all sorts of things including mental health, is going to give the RSPCA more than half a million dollars for a couple more inspectors, and has banned animals under 200kg from participating in rodeos. This means no more calf roping or bronco branding in South Australia. Gail Gago’s press release: http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/animalwelfare/pdfs/rodeo_news_release_4july2007.pdf […]
