Giddy Goanna – Farm Safety for Adults & Children

Giddy Goanna is a not-for-profit child safety promoting organisation that began with a focus on farm safety. 6 books have been published – three of which feature farm safety:

1. Farm Safety fun with Giddy Goanna (1995). Written by Pamela Brown and illustrated by Rebecca Berrett.

2. Giddy Goanna – Fun on the Farm (1997). Written by Pamela Brown and illustrated by Chris Sheldrake.

3. Giddy Goanna – Many Farms to Visit (1999). Written by Pamela Brown and illustrated by Chris Sheldrake.

These cartoon-like books are fabulously Australian and very popular with young children. The Careless Cousins, Giddy Goanna and Spiney cover every farm activity – from sheep, cattle and horse handling to chemicals, motorbikes and machinery and farm tool safety. Farms are complex and potentially dangerous places for children. Especially when you have several children, it’s so easy to forget to properly explain something essential, to one of the youngest members of the family – such as leaving a dog alone when it is eating. These books are the ideal prompt for a parent to take up the opportunity to add a personal explanation, when reading through the book with a child.

Highly recommended for all children – not just those who live on or visit farms. T-shirts, a dvd and cd are also available from the Giddy Goanna website.
